Cannabidiol (CBD) – based products have become a trend due to their multiple benefits. They can be found in oils, creams, supplements; they can even be combined with other products to enhance their properties. CBD is a component found in the Cannabis Sativa plant, a member of the Cannabaceae family and its properties are often confused with those of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive component of the plant. But how is CBD oil made? In this post we are going to learn about the process of making oil, the most natural and effective product against a host of pathologies.

As mentioned above, Cannabidiol is a component of hemp, or Cannabis Sativa, and is extracted from the stems, leaves, and flowers. Its properties range from neuroprotection to the regulation of anxiety levels. It is used in numerous medical treatments and also for therapeutic purposes. According to CANNA Foundation, specializing in its scientific research, CBD oil is suitable for epilepsy patients and for treating aggressive skin conditions (such as acne or psoriasis). And furthermore, the World Health Organization, eminence at an international level, recognized the efficacy of this product in medical treatments.

To better understand how CBD oil is manufactured we must know how is the extraction and commercialization of this product, but first there is a previous process that we must know: the cultivation.
Cultivation

In several countries of the world it is illegal to grow plants associated with the Cannabaceae family. Although in some others only a certificate approved by the corresponding local departments is needed. This has to do with the fact that in the hemp plant, from which the CBD oil is extracted, THC is present, and for this reason the relevant certification is important, for its cultivation and future commercialization, the plant containing less than 0.03% of THC to guarantee the safety of those who will consume the product. And, primarily, its cultivation must be in clean soil, free of toxins.
Oil extraction
There are several ways to extract Cannabidiol oil. Some are more effective than others: it can be with olive oil, with solvents, or dry ice; but these mechanisms result in an oil that is more perishable or not as effective as it is with CO2 extraction, the one chosen for excellence by manufacturers.
Extraction with CO2 is the best strategy to obtain quality oil, although this process is the most expensive to do and its procedure is even more arduous and specialized than the rest. The gist of this method is that your end product is 100% safe.
To use this technique you need a closed loop system and an extraction machine. The obtained is placed in a chamber and then passes to another where the carbon dioxide is cooled and acquires a supercritical state and has the same functions as a solvent.
Once the CO2 reaches that supercritical state, it is transferred to a chamber where it manages to separate the cannabinoid and terpene components of the Cannabis Sativa plant without damaging any of them and then, these separated components are transferred to a collection container and the CO2 returns to its original state to be able to use it again in another new extraction.
Having the cannabinoids separated, they are added to an oil, it can be coconut or hemp itself, and that’s it!
Purification
This process is not mandatory, it depends on the company that markets these products to do it or not. It consists of washing the Cannabidiol extract with alcohol to freeze it and separate this component from other residual substances that have remained as a result of the extraction process. Another technique called decarboxylation can also be applied that is subjected to heat and activates several of the substances in the plant.

Analysis
The latter is done with a chromatograph, whose objective is to separate components, to identify the presence of fertilizers, heavy metals, etc. This serves to provide detailed information for the prospectus on its main components and assets and for the regulatory bodies of pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food products to verify that it is a product suitable for consumption.
In short, the manufacture of CBD is a long but simple process. The more natural its cultivation and extraction, the better. This product is the perfect ally to strengthen your immune system in times of a COVID-19 pandemic and also to opt for a healthier, drug-free option to accompany you on your path to well-being.
